3.2 Types of Matrices

Row, column, square, diagonal, scalar, identity, and zero matrices.

Type	Condition
Row matrix	Only one row ( $1 \times n$ )
Column matrix	Only one column ( $m \times 1$ )
Square matrix	$m = n$
Diagonal matrix	$a_{ij} = 0$ for $i \neq j$
Scalar matrix	Diagonal matrix with all diagonal elements equal
Identity matrix $I$	Diagonal matrix with all diagonal elements $= 1$
Zero matrix $O$	All elements are $0$
