Introduction to Quadratic Equations

Definition and standard form of quadratic equations.

A quadratic equation in the variable xx is an equation of the form:

ax2+bx+c=0,a0ax^2 + bx + c = 0, \quad a \neq 0

where aa, bb, and cc are real numbers. Here aa is the coefficient of x2x^2, bb is the coefficient of xx, and cc is the constant term.

Examples of Quadratic Equations

  • 2x2+3x5=02x^2 + 3x - 5 = 0
  • x27x+10=0x^2 - 7x + 10 = 0
  • 3x211=03x^2 - 11 = 0 (here b=0b = 0)
